"MAKE SINGAPORE A BRIGHT, GREEN SPARK FOR THE WORLD"
LEE HSIEN LOONG
SINGAPORE PRIME MINISTER
Global efforts to stop the Earth's temperature from rising above the pre-industrial level of 1.5ºC are failing. The planet faces a 50% risk of heating up beyond this 1.5ºC threshold within the next five years. The climate clock is ticking fast. All nations of the world must come together to achieve net zero carbon emission as soon as possible.
Singapore is playing its part via the SG Green Plan 2030 to reach its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and long-term low-emission development goals. These are in line with the global climate change targets of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Using art, Trash-Sure aims to call attention to the severity of our climate crisis and inspire urgent and purposeful actions to protect Planet Earth.
W.O.N.
For Singapore, W.O.N. is our Whole-Of-Nation effort. We need to engage the whole-of-government, whole-of-enterprise and whole-of-people to secure a greener and more sustainable Singapore for our future generation.
Let us all come together to play our part.
"WE NEED TO OVERCOME THIS EXISTENTIAL CHALLENGE TOGETHER - AS A WHOLE-OF-NATION"
TEO CHEE HEAN
SINGAPORE SENIOR MINISTER
DEVASTATING IMPACTS OF OUR CLIMATE CRISIS
Contamination of Groundwater - Sea level rise could result in flooding, with seawater contaminating our groundwater.
Loss of Wildlife Habitat - Changing environmental conditions could see plants and animals losing over half of their habitats.
An Ice-Free Arctic - Today, there are millions of square kilometres of Arctic sea ice even in the summer. If Earth warms by 2ºC, there will be at least once completely ice-free summer every decade!
Coral Bleaching - Ocean habitats are at risk too. Rising water temperatures could cause a loss of algae, turning coral reefs white and leaving them prone to diseases.
